Meet Leigh ...
A prodigy on the track, Leigh shot to prominence in Australian cycling on the boards. The Victorian is has won world tittles in the omnium, team pursuit and Madison.
While he has put his track days behind him to focus on his road career, Leigh has evolved into a top road sprinter during his two-years with the Highroad and 1 year with the newly formed Australian outfit of Orica-GreenEDGE. After Highroad finished up as a team at the end of 2011 he moved to the new Orica-GreenEDGE team to start a new chapter in his young, fruitful career and to further his sprinting capabilities.
Leigh’s precocious talent was on display with his Tour of Oman stage win in 2010 in what was his first ever race as a professional. Here he outsmarted and outsprinted older, more experienced rivals such as Tom Boonen and Tyler Farrar. It gave him his first taste for victory in bigger races. He eagerly anticipates supporting his now team mate Matt Goss in some big one day races and has his eyes firmly set on one day winning Milan-San-Remo which he say’s is his dream.
The 23-year-old aims to start a Tour de France in the next few years. Eventually, he wants to develop into one the main sprinters within the peloton. He has now notched up a total of 7 professional victories in his 4 years pro and a bunch of podium places as well as 4 world championships on the track.
